KRIS KRISTOFFERSON, LEGENDARY SONGWRITER, HIGHWAYMAN AND COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME MEMBER, PASSES AWAY AT 88
Kris Kristofferson, one of Country Music’s most legendary songwriters and musicians with hits like “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Sunday Morning Coming Down” passed away Saturday, Sept. 28. He was 88.
Throughout his career, Kristofferson was awarded a CMA Award for penning “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” a hit Johnny Cash took to the top of the charts in 1970. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. Kristofferson also hosted the CMA Awards in 1985 with Anne Murray and 1986 alongside fellow Highwayman, Willie Nelson.
“The Country Music world has lost one of its most profound storytellers. I was fortunate to get to work with Kris on many projects over the years. His charm was exactly what you’d expect—unassuming and slightly mysterious yet deeply warm. As a prolific writer, actor and performer, his gifts were unlike anyone else. We regret that we will no longer be beneficiaries of his incredible words and talents. Our hearts go out to Kris’s friends and family during this sad time.” – Sarah Trahern, Country Music Association CEO
